From the Deacons:  Tonight’s offering is for the Hungry for Christ Food Ministry.  This ministry is located in Hamilton and collects food from area stores and works with local churches and schools to distribute the food to those who are in need. 

The Deacons thank you for giving to World Renew - Hurricane Harvey Relief.  If you missed last week’s offering, you can put your check made to North Blendon Christian Reformed Church in an envelope marked with “Hurricane Harvey” and your budget number and place it in any offering today or next Sunday, September 24 and it will go for that fund. 

 

Ladies In Faith Together (L.I.F.T.):  This week is our exciting Kick-Off Event.  If you are thinking of attending L.I.F.T. this year, join us on Wednesday, September 20th at 6:00pm at Joyce Kooiker’s house (6375 Bauer Road, Hudsonville).  We would love to have anyone who would like to come to our once a month Bible study this year join us for this fun event.   If you have any questions or would like to be added to our Facebook group please contact Joyce Kooiker at (616) 204-6706 or Sarah Fennema at (616) 323-4531 or via Facebook.

 

Next Sunday, September 24 — We plan to witness the baptism of Madilyn Dianne Aukeman, daughter of Carlton & Kayli Aukeman, during the morning worship service.  Our evening service will be led by Rev. Tyler Wagenmaker, pastor at Beaverdam CRC as part of the Classical Pulpit Exchange.  Pastor Aaron plans to lead the evening service at North Street CRC. 

Sunday School starts on September 24.  We will have donuts (and donut holes for preschoolers) and juice/pop/water for all the kids in Sunday School and their teachers.  We hope to see all the kids, Preschool - 12th Grade on the first day! 

 

Mission Emphasis is Sunday, October 1 and Sunday, October 8.

October 1: 

    AM — Scott Stark from GVSU’s Campus Ministry will be taking part in our morning service.

    PM — Our congregation will be joining Scott Stark at GVSU’s worship service called “The Well”.  The service is from 7:00-8:15 pm and meets at the Cook-DeWitt Center on GVSU’s Allendale Campus.  You are encouraged to attend.  We may park in Lot H or G.  NOTE:  Please arrive about 45 minutes to 1 hour prior to the start of the service.  The Center fills up quickly with students.  If you do not wish to drive to GVSU you may meet at church at 5:45 pm and catch a ride with someone from our congregation.   (We will not be having an evening service here at North Blendon CRC)

October 8: 

     AM — Scott Geurink, who works with Classis Zeeland's Hispanic Ministry Development, will be taking part in the morning worship service.

Faith Promise Forms will be in your bulletins both weeks of Mission Emphasis.

 

From the Outreach Committee:  We will be serving snacks/cookies to GVSU students following the worship service on October 1.  We need to provide snacks for at least 500 students and are looking for volunteers to donate snacks/cookies.  If you are willing to bring something, please sign up on the sheet in the narthex.  Bring your snack/cookies to church on the morning of October 1 and the Outreach Committee will get it to the service in the evening.  Thanks for your help.

 

A Church Potluck will be held in the church basement on Sunday, October 8 at 12:00 Noon.  If you have 4 or more in your family, please bring a hot and cold dish.  If you have 3 or less in your family, bring one dish to pass.  Drinks, rolls/butter, and table service will be provided.

Ladies’ Bible Study — We invite all ladies of the church to come and join us!  We meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month at 1:30 pm.  Our meetings are held in the Youth Building and Pastor Aaron leads our lessons.  We will begin on Tuesday, October 3 at 1:30 pm.  Come to this meeting with ideas of what we could study this year.  Our first two meetings of October we will be finishing the last lessons in our book from last year and then we will start the new study we choose.  If you have any questions or if you have ideas of what to study this coming year, please contact Shirl Klomparens.

 

Women’s Small Group Bible Study will be starting soon.  If you are interested in attending, please sign up on the sheet in the narthex.  This year we will be using the book Red Hot Faith by Cindy Bultema.  There is a copy of the book by the sign up sheet for you to look through.  We are thinking of changing our meeting time to Wednesday evenings.  If another night works better for you or if you have any questions, please contact Vicky Gruppen or Rosie Hutson. 

 

Middle School Youth Group News:

     Saturday, September 23 — Kick-Off - 4:00-8:00 pm

     Calling all Middle Schoolers - 6-8th grade!  Get ready to slip ‘n slide and slide with us into a new year on Saturday, September 23rd!  We plan to gather around 4:00 pm and enjoy some slip ‘n slide kickball here at church.  Please dress  appropriately for getting wet and dirty, bring a towel and a change of clothes. We will also enjoy supper and a bonfire together, concluding our evening at 8:00 pm.  Feel free to invite a friend and please sign up TODAY so that we know how much food to plan for.  Also, don’t forget that medical permission and electronic forms need to be turned in asap.  Hope to see you all on Saturday!

“If you have it, leave it!  If you need it, take it!”  The Produce Stand has been placed by the 72nd Avenue driveway of North Blendon Reformed Church.  The stand is for anyone to donate surplus fruits and vegetables from their garden or if you can use any of the donated produce, please take some.  The stand is available for our community and our congregations.   

 

Sunday School Teachers Meeting will be held today after the morning service.  We will meet in the toddler nursery (note change of meeting place).  We will be discussing the upcoming year and handing out Sunday School books.  Please plan to attend.  (If you are a leader for another group that needs to watch the abuse video, your materials will be in your mailbox.)

GEMS Counselors, Cadet Counselors, 3-Point Leaders, Martial Arts Leaders, and Middle School Youth Group Leaders, and New Volunteers — The PowerPoint will be shown in the sanctuary today following the morning service and on Monday, September 11 at 7:00 pm.  You will be able to update your Volunteer Forms and receive your policies at the showings of the Abuse Prevention & Response PowerPoint.  Not sure if you need to watch the Abuse Prevention PowerPoint?  You will need to watch: If you are volunteering for any NBCRC group and you did not watch the PowerPoint last year.  If you are a new volunteer for any NBCRC group.  If you are a GEMS Counselor, Cadet Counselor, 3-Point Leader, Martial Arts Leader or a Middle School Youth Group Leader.  Still not sure, contact your group chairman or Robin Fennema.

Calling all 3rd - 8th grade girls: We are very excited to begin our GEMS year learning about following Jesus with our theme of "Walking in His Steps".  Our kick-off this year will be a campout on September 15 & 16 - look for more information in your mailboxes.

 

Ladies In Faith Together (L.I.F.T.):  We will be starting year 2 of our L.I.F.T. Pig Roast/ Bag Auction at North Blendon Reformed Church, on September 14. Dinner is at 5pm with a Bag auction to follow approximately 6:30pm What is a bag auction?? You put an item in a brown grocery bag or a garbage bag and put a clue on the outside what might be in the bag.  The auctioneer will read the clue and you bid on what you think might be in the bag. Everyone is invited. Come for dinner, come for the auction, bring a bag or two if you like and just come and have some fun and lots of laughter. Cadet Kick-Off will be held on Tuesday, September 5 from 7:00-9:00 pm.  Cadets - bring a rocket if you have one.  Note to Parents:  Need 1 parent to attend to sign forms.

 

Cadet Council Campout will be held on Friday, September 8 - Saturday, September 9.  We will meet at church at 6:00 pm on Friday.  Cadets are to bring:  pillow, sleeping bag, Bible, flashlight, mess kit, and a chair for by the campfire.  Cadets will be taken home about 12:00 pm on Saturday.  (in case of rain the Campout will be held in the Coopersville CRC gym) 

 

Sunday School Teachers - Our Sunday School Teachers’ Meeting will be held on Sunday, September 10 after the morning service in the toddler nursery (note change of meeting place). We will be discussing the upcoming year and handing out Sunday School books.  Please plan to attend.  (If you are a leader for another group that needs to watch the abuse video, your materials will be in your mailbox.) 

 

GEMS Counselors, Cadet Counselors, 3-Point Leaders, Martial Arts Leaders, and Middle School Youth Group Leaders  — You are required to watch the Abuse Prevention & Response PowerPoint and update your Volunteer Forms every year.  This review is necessary every year because your groups leave the church property.  This year the PowerPoint will be shown on Sunday, September 10 following the morning worship service and on Monday, September 11 at 7:00 pm, so please mark these dates on your calendar so you can attend one of these showings.  You will be able to update your Volunteer Forms and receive your policies at the showings of the Abuse Prevention PowerPoint.  Not sure if you need to watch the Abuse Prevention PowerPoint?  You will need to watch:  If you are volunteering for any NBCRC group and you did not watch the PowerPoint last year.  If you are a new volunteer for any NBCRC group. If you are a GEMS Counselor, Cadet Counselor, 3-Point Leader, Martial Arts Leader or a Middle School Youth Group Leader.  Still not sure, contact your group chairman or Robin Fennema. 

 

Calling all 3rd - 8th grade girls: We are very excited to begin our GEMS year learning about following Jesus with our theme of "Walking in His Steps".  Our kick-off this year will be a campout on September 15 & 16 - look for more information in your mailboxes.

 

Ladies In Faith Together (L.I.F.T.):  We will be starting year 2 of our L.I.F.T. Bible study group for women aged 18 – 30(ish).  This is an exciting and growing group and we would absolutely LOVE to have you join us.   We generally meet once a month for some amazing conversations, getting to know new friends, and exploring all the Bible has to teach us.  If you are thinking of attending L.I.F.T. this year, our kick-off will take place on September 20th at 6:00pm at Joyce Kooiker’s house.  All returning members as well as new ones are welcome to come for some dinner and fellowship.   If you have any questions or would like to be added to our Facebook group please contact Joyce Kooiker (616) 204-6706 or Sarah Fennema (616) 323-4531 or via Facebook.

 

Women’s Small Group Bible Study will be starting soon.  If you are interested in attending, please sign up on the sheet in the narthex.  This year we will be using the book Red Hot Faith by Cindy Bultema.  There is a copy of the book by the sign up sheet for you to look through. We are thinking of changing our meeting time to Wednesday evenings.  If another night works better for you or if you have any questions, please contact Vicky Gruppen or Rosie Hutson. 

 

If you have it, leave it!  If you need it, take it!”  The Produce Stand has been placed by the 72nd Avenue driveway of North Blendon Reformed Church.  The stand is for anyone to donate surplus fruits and vegetables from their garden or if you can use any of the donated produce, please take some.  The stand is available for our community and our congregations.   

 

A Church Potluck will be held in the church basement on Sunday, October 8 at 12:00 Noon.  If you have 4 or more in your family, please bring a hot and cold dish.  If you have 3 or less in your family, bring one dish to pass.  Drinks, rolls/butter, and table service will be provided. 

 

Ladies’ Bible Study — We invite all ladies of the church to come and join us!  We meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month at 1:30 pm.  Our meetings are held in the Youth Building and Pastor Aaron leads our lessons.  We will begin on Tuesday, October 3 at 1:30 pm.  Come to this meeting with ideas of what we could study this year.  Our first two meetings of October we will be finishing the last lessons in our book from last year and then we will start the new study we choose.  If you have any questions or if you have ideas of what to study this coming year, please contact Shirl Klomparens.

Pig Roast/ Bag Auction at North Blendon Reformed Church, on September 14. Dinner is at 5pm with a Bag auction to follow approximately 6:30pm What is a bag auction?? You put an item in a brown grocery bag or a garbage bag and put a clue on the outside what might be in the bag.  The auctioneer will read the clue and you bid on what you think might be in the bag. Everyone is invited. Come for dinner, come for the auction, bring a bag or two if you like and just come and have some fun and lots of laughter. Sunday School Volunteers, Children in Worship Leaders & Helpers, and Nursery Volunteers, VBS Volunteers  — You are required to update your Volunteer Forms every year.  You will be able to update your Volunteer Forms TODAY following the morning worship service.  Robin will have your Volunteer Forms and will be in classroom #2 in the church basement following the morning worship service and will stay during the coffee/fellowship time.  Come sometime during coffee fellowship to review your Volunteer Forms and initial that all information is current.  I will be able to take one or two people at a time and it will take a few minutes to do.  Robin also will give you a policies for each group you volunteer for and you may take those home to read.
