This year’s GEMS theme is “Be a Blessing”.  We want to continue our Secret Grandmother/Person program and would love to have you.  We want the girls to be a blessing to you as well as you be a blessing to them.  Relationships between generations matter and we think this program is an awesome way to build these relationships.  We match up a GEMS girl to a secret person and throughout the year we ask for you to pray for your girl and you can send small gifts and/or cards.  If interested in becoming a secret grandmother/person, please fill out the form in your mailbox.  If you have questions contact Deb Nyenbrink (616-875-8115 or cell 616-302-1864).  Thank you for everyone who helped make this program a success for the past 4 years.  We couldn’t do it without you — The GEMS Leaders

 

Today is the last day to purchase subs from 3-Point.  The subs are $3 each.  We have ham and cheese, turkey and cheese, and traditional (ham, turkey, salami and cheese).  If you buy 12 subs the 13th sub is free. If you want to purchase subs contact a 3-Point member.  The subs will be delivered on Saturday, November 3.  Thank you for all of your support!

 

Trunk or Treat — Will be held on Saturday, October 27 from 5:00-6:30 pm (rain or shine).  Weather permitting we will be outside.  Set up starts at 4:30 pm.  If you are planning on handing out candy please put your name on the sign-up sheet in the narthex so we know how many spaces to have if we need to move inside.  Not able to make it but would still like to be involved...donate some candy!  Donations can be placed in the church kitchen by Wednesday, October 24.  Any questions can be directed to a Outreach Committee member.    Donuts, hot chocolate, apple cider and coffee will be available.  Come out for a night of fun.

 

October is Pastor Appreciation Month at North Blendon CRC.  Place a note or card in Pastor Aaron’s mailbox, stop in at church for a visit with him, or give him a call during this month.

 

Christian School Disbursement will take place in November.  If you are in need of extra money for tuition, please contact Tony Hassevoort at 616-836-1473 by November 4.

Are you interested in learning some tips for working with children?  On November 11th, after the morning service, there will be a presentation led by Stacy Deters and Deirdre Vriesman where you can ask questions and learn some tricks.  Sunday School teachers, GEMS Leaders, Cadet Leaders, and anyone else interested are welcome to attend.  We will meet in the Sanctuary.

 

Pick up a World Renew Gift Catalog from the missionary table in the narthex.  Uzima is a Swahili word that means “full of life.”  When you purchase from the catalog you give “life” to someone who is struggling with hunger, with poverty, or who is oppressed.  As Thanksgiving and Christmas approach, take time look at and purchase something to give a better life to someone.

Today is Mission Emphasis Sunday.  Sunday School Kids will sing during our morning service.  Shelley Hollar, Director of Positive Options in Holland, will be sharing about Positive Options and the work that is done there.  In the bulletin is an insert which lists missionaries and missions our church supports with Faith Promise offerings.  There is an explanation of the work of each one.  At the bottom of the page is a place you can put what you pledge to give to Faith Promise during the year of 2019.  Fill it out and place the bottom part into a collection plate.  Keep the upper part for your records to know what you plan to give, with God’s help, to Faith Promise in 2019.

 

Parents of Sunday School Students - if you have not done so already, please stop in the old infant nursery TODAY to update your child's Emergency Contact Form for Sunday School.  Anytime after church and throughout the Sunday School hour is fine.

 

Today is the last day to order from the GEMS.  Check the card catalogs and the sample calendar located on the shelf in the narthex and on the GEMS table in the basement.  If you see something you want to order, please contact a GEMS girl to place your order.  If you cannot contact a GEMS girls, please use the order forms on the shelf or table.  Thank you so much for your support!!

  Saturday, October 20 - Crane’s Orchard - 3:50-7:00 pm

      Middle School Youth Group - We are going to take a trip to Crane's Orchard on Saturday, October 20th to venture through their 20 acre corn maze!  We will gather at church at 3:50 pm and conclude our evening at church at 7 pm.  We will have a brief discussion time with cider and donuts, however dinner will not be provided. Please sign up in the Narthex, so that we can make sure that we have enough seats/drivers.  We hope that you and your friends are up for the challenge,  we know your leaders are!!

Today and next Sunday are our Mission Emphasis Sundays.  Scott Geurink is taking part in our morning service this week.  Next week the Sunday School kids will be singing and we will have a speaker from Positive Options.  In our bulletins today is an insert which lists the missionaries and missions that our church supports with our Faith Promise offerings.  There is also an explanation of the work of each one.  At the bottom of the page is a place which you can put what you pledge to give to Faith Promise during the year of 2019.  Fill it out this week or next week and place the bottom part into a collection plate.  Keep the upper part for your records to know what you plan to give, with God’s help, to Faith Promise in 2019.

 

Parents of Sunday School Students - please stop in the old infant nursery TODAY or next Sunday,  October 14, to update your child's Emergency Contact Form for Sunday School.  Anytime after church and throughout the Sunday School hour is fine.

 

A Church Potluck will be held in the church basement today at 12:00 Noon.  If you have 4 or more in your family, please bring a hot and cold dish.  If you have 3 or less in your family, bring one dish to pass.  Drinks, rolls/butter, and table service will be provided.

Congregation:  The Christmas Program Committee is looking for fabric donations to make some new costumes.  We are looking for lightweight material in neutral and light colors.  If you have fabric to donate or if you have any questions, please contact Alexandria Buist at 616-402-6178.

 

October is Pastor Appreciation Month at North Blendon CRC.  Place a note or card in Pastor Aaron’s mailbox, stop in at church for a visit with him, or give him a call during this month.

 

Are you interested in learning some tips for working with children?  On November 11th, after the morning service there will a presentation led by Stacy Deters and Deirdre Vriesman where you can ask questions and learn some tricks.  Sunday school teachers, GEMs Leaders, Cadet Leaders, and anyone else who is interested are welcome to attend.  We will meet in the Sanctuary.

 

3-Point is selling subs starting today until October 21.  The subs are $3 each.  We have ham and cheese, turkey and cheese, and traditional (ham, turkey, salami and cheese).  If you buy 12 subs the 13th sub is free. If you would like to purchase subs contact a 3-Point member.  The subs will be delivered on Saturday, November 3.  Thank you for all of your support!

 

Trunk or Treat — Will be held on Saturday, October 27 from 5:00-6:30 pm (rain or shine).  Donuts, hot chocolate, apple cider and coffee will be available.  Come out for a night of fun.

 

 

Middle School Youth Group News:  

  Saturday, October 20 - Crane’s Orchard - 3:50-7:00 pm

      Middle School Youth Group - We are going to take a trip to Crane's Orchard on Saturday, October 20th to venture through their 20 acre corn maze!  We will gather at church at 3:50 pm and conclude our evening at church at 7 pm.  We will have a brief discussion time with cider and donuts, however dinner will not be provided.  Please sign up in the Narthex, so that we can make sure that we have enough seats/drivers.  We hope that you and your friends are up for the challenge,  we know your leaders are!!

Christian Reformed Conference Grounds is thrilled to have The Burgess Brothers  in concert on October 6. Sunday School starts Today!!  Preschool - 1st Grade will meet in the church basement and 2nd - 12th Grade will meet in the Youth Building.  We will be celebrating our first week of Sunday School with ice cream sundaes for the kids and teachers.  We hope to see everyone there!

 

Ladies!!  The Women’s Small Group Bible Study will begin on Wednesday, September 26 at 7:00 pm.  We will meet twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays.  New members are welcome to come!  Our study guide this year is “The Armor of God” by Priscilla Shirer.  A sample book and a sign up sheet are in the narthex.  Please come on Wednesday if you are interested.

 

Classis Zeeland Prayer Meeting:  Everyone is invited, especially council members and those who want to be devoted to prayer, to a special prayer meeting on Thursday, September 27, 7 p.m., at First Christian Reformed Church, Zeeland.  We will praise, seek forgiveness, thank and bring our requests to the King of the Church!

 

From Council:  At the September Council Meeting a motion was made, supported, and unanimously passed to offer Pastor Vriesman a sabbatical.  Details will be worked out in he upcoming months and relayed to the congregation.  Anyone with comments or questions please talk to Rog Overweg. 

 

Attention Ladies!! — The Ladies’ Bible Study will begin on Tuesday, October 2 and meet on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays at 1:30 pm.  Pastor Aaron leads our group and this year we will be studying the book Love, The Greatest Gift of All  by Phyllis J.
